FamilyCare

In “What about me…” A guide for caring, FamilyCare describes a suite of supported care arrangements and together with learning how to manage personal and family struggles and reaching for peace of mind provides a 'big picture' of lifelong care.

FamilyCare goes beyond just care support services. It involves a suite of dependent arrangements that address the person-care-financial-legal considerations: personal profile, caring and protective people, care accommodation, safeguards, finances and legal structures - together they create a lifelong care plan.

It is stressed that person-care-financial-legal arrangements are inter-dependent and must be considered as part of the 'big picture' of lifelong care - otherwise uncoordinated care support outcomes will continue with discrete and unrelated arrangements.

One of the goals of the FamilyCare workshops is to encourage participants to develop their own lifelong care plan. Participants are encouraged to take a leading role with carers, professionals and organisations to produce a coordinated plan.

"FamilyCare is about loving care with built-in safeguards"

Lifelong care
Lifelong care: Michele – “Becoming too old or what will happen if I died would come up every time I thought of Michele’s future, it was a real worry. It was a chilling thought that Michele might be alone in the world depending on other people to provide for her. I also thought about her present needs and my ability to keep looking after her.”

Being a “Strong” parent
Being a “strong” parent – Creating a strong presence that protects and indirectly empowers a vulnerable family member. "A strong parent is having the power of resistance, not being easily dissuaded and if required, be tough and flexible, solid and soft".
